paying attention to prerequisites needed and related information
the structure of the subject; how the information fits together.
structuring your lessons effectively to get the information across\
interdisciplinary connections
clear/accurate classroom explanations
accommodating prerequisites in your lesson
As a teacher I will:
make sure I understand the subject myself
structure my lessons in an understandable way so that the information builds on itself
I like the idea of interdisciplinary connection; I will try to connect my lessons to each subject. This could grab the attention of a child who isn't really into the current subject by connecting it to a subject they generally enjoy
I will make sure that I am explaining the information clearly and explain the subject again if certain students don't quite get it
Domain 1B: demonstrating knowledge of your students
This involves a lot!
knowing where your students are in their development (mentally and physically)
Knowledge of the learning process
Knowledge of student's skill, knowledge, and language proficiency; their lives outside of school affect their learning
Knowledge of student's culture, heritage, and interests
making accommodations for students with special needs
As a teacher I will implement this by:
studying child development
constantly evaluating my students while they are with me so that I can get a sense of where they are and how I can better help them learn
taking time to delve into other cultures from around the world
being knowledgeable of popular culture and using it to connect with students and use this to engage them more fully into the lesson
As someone who had an IEP in school, you can guarantee that I will be mindful of students who need some extra help; I will be completely willing to work with the parents, the student, and the administration to better help these students learn
Domain 1C: setting instructional outcomes
value, sequence and alignment: students must be able to build their understanding concept by concept
clarity: outcomes must refer to what students will learn, not what they will do
balance: assessment should reflect different types of learning (knowledge, conceptual understanding, thinking skills)
sustainable for diverse students: outcomes should be appropriate for all students in the class
As a teacher I will:
make my tests understandable, follow my lesson plan, and what we have gone over
make it extremely clear what I am expecting and looking for on any test
make sure that my tests can easily be slightly changed to accommodate students who need it
make the subject understandable for all students
Domain 1D: knowledge of resources
what can you use in the classroom available to you that align with your learning objectives?
what resources do you have to extend your own knowledge and learning?
what resources are there for your students that are appropriately challenging?
As a teacher I will:
constantly be looking for new things to enhance my lessons
doing research to find ways to help my students learn
looking at what is provided to me by the school and how I can use that
making sure that I have everything I need for my lesson plan
keep my classroom stocked with options
Domain 1E: designing coherent instruction
activities and lessons are designed to engage and advance students' learning
materials and resources fit with into the lesson and help the students understand the lesson
groups (like for in class activities) are intentionally formed to help the students learn
Lessons are structured logically to further student's understanding of the material
As a teacher, I will:
include logical activities into my lesson to maintain my students attention and further their understanding
keep my lessons straight and to the point; here's the objective, this is how we are going to reach it
pay attention to the class climate; watch how students interact in order to form the most effective groups so that students can learn from and help each other
Domain 1F: designing student assessments
assessments must match learning objectives
expectations must be clearly defined
assessments must be planned as part of the instructional process
the results of assessments should guide future lessons and planning
As the teacher I will:
plan my test along with my lesson plan so that I know what content to put on the test
clearly explain to my students what I am looking for before they take the test
examine the tests and see what I can improve on in the future with that lesson or unit
see where students struggled the most collectively and take note of that to improve mu practice in the future (and go over the section with them to make sure they understand why they struggled and how to get the right answer in the future)
